December 1 is World AIDS Day. And you know this because Bono is all over. Bono is a man with a mission and he’s out there for a cause–a very good cause. Do your little part with this.

Ben Long’s tips for taking better holiday pictures

These are easy-to-follow, always-works-wonders, fail-safe kind of tips.

It’s unavoidable: During the holidays someone is bound to get out a camera to grab some festive snapshots. If you’re the person with camera duties, then you should follow some of these photo guidelines. If you’re not the person shooting, then you can offer these suggestions from in front of the camera. Really, people love that.

Ben Long is one of my favorite photography guys, and it’s a bonus he’s the one telling us these things. Click here to read the full article over at MacWorld.

Leica & Lonely Planet: A marriage made in heaven

What could possibly be a better match than this?

Leica Akademie North America (with Lonely Planet) continues Leica’s long tradition of photographic education through experiential workshops offered in cities across North America. The Akademie’s goal is to increase the fun and enjoyment of photography, expand photography knowledge and bring the total Leica experience to a new generation of photographers.

Nothing, I guess.

Nicholas Confessore and Michael Barbaro, The New York Times:

Roughly 45,000 gay couples live in New York State, according to census estimates. No exact projection is available for how many will marry here, but officials are readying for thousands, especially in the first week.

“We are training our staff to be prepared for a very large number of people on the first day,” said Michael McSweeney, the New York City clerk, who oversees the marriage bureau. “We are going to be part of history.”

The wedding business is going to boom.

Father and daughter …

Jay Maisel, on her daughter, Amanda:

When your child reaches 15 or so, certain transformations take place. Some say it’s hormonal, others know it’s the work of the devil. Your child suddenly perceives you as an imbecile. If you’re lucky, a lovable imbecile. You are also relegated to a position of irrelevance and a source of unbelievably stupid announcements and pronouncements.

Heartwarming little stories like these are so interesting to read. I hope Jay Maisel writes more.
